Web Survey Bibliography
In the first quarter of 2011, 8.71 million adults had never used the Internet. This represented 17.5 per cent of the adult population. This compares with 40.78 million who had used the Internet, representing 82.2 per cent of the population. These new quarterly experimental statistics on Internet users and non-users are derived from the Labour Force Survey. In August 2010, ONS published an estimate of 9.2 million adults who had never used the Internet in the 2010 Internet Access – Households and Individuals statistical bulletin. As that was compiled from a different source than the estimates contained in this article, comparisons should be treated with caution. Internet use is linked to various socio-economic and demographic characteristics, such as age, disability and location. Groups of adults who were more likely to have never used the Internet included the over 65s, the widowed and those with a disability.
